Wondering how to adjust your pool water safely? It all starts with knowing what your test results mean. A lot of pool owners rush this part and end up making things worse. Here's how to get your pool back in balance—without causing damage.
What to Do If Chlorine Levels Are Low
Use granules or liquid chlorine for a fast fix. Tablets work too, but they dissolve slowly. That makes them better for maintenance, not quick boosts.
How much should you add? Look at the product label. Most dosing instructions are based on 10,000 gallons of water. If that sounds confusing, bring your test results to S Kay Pools—we’ll figure it out with you.
How to Fix Low pH
Use a pH increaser like soda ash. Low pH makes water feel rough and can corrode your pool equipment. Add the dose shown on the label, run the pump, and check levels the next day to see if you're in range.
What to Do If pH Is Too High
Use a pH reducer like sodium bisulfate. High pH blocks chlorine from working properly. Just like before, add the correct amount, let the pump circulate the water, and retest the next day.
Adjusting Alkalinity the Right Way
We carry alkalinity increaser and alkalinity reducer. These products help keep your pH stable and make your chlorine work better. Follow label instructions, keep the water circulating, and test again tomorrow.
Managing Stabilizer (Cyanuric Acid)
Stabilizer protects chlorine from the sun. But too much of it slows everything down. If your stabilizer is too high, you'll probably need to drain and refill part of your pool to bring it back in range.
Keep the Pump Running During Any Treatment
Always make sure your pool pump is on when you add any treatment. This helps spread the chemical through the water evenly and avoids damage to the liner or finish.
Not Sure What to Do?
